"Rag Doll Oracles"

 Acrylic on paper series

“Rag Doll Oracles” is an ongoing series of accidental portraits, painted predominately with rolling pins and acrylic paint on paper,  2018.

I refer to these works as accidental portraits because what's perceived to be a human face has been created through the predominately random application of black paint with rolling pins.

The human brain is programed to find and recognize faces. In fact, we're so good at recognizing animal or human-like faces that we often see them in unexpected places, like the face of Jesus on a slice of burnt toast or Mickey Mouse in a pile of rocks. “Pareidolia” is the science that endeavors to explain why we see faces in random everyday objects.
